Sam Every – MD/Drums
Sam is a 17 year old drummer from Cornwall currently on the jazz drums course at The Purcell School of Music in North London. Sam started the drums when he was 6. He progressed through his local brass bands and county orchestras until he joined The Purcell School in 2012, where he is supported by the Government’s Music and Dance Scheme with a full scholarship. Since then he has been studying jazz drums with Darren Altman, Orchestral Percussion with Kevin Hathway, Jazz Piano with Kit Downes and Tuba with Steve Wick. Sam was also rewarded a full scholarship to study Tuba at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music where he is now in his second year.
Sam has performed with many artists including Stan Sulzman, Clark Tracey, Simon Allen, Mike Lovatt, the National Youth Jazz Collective, the BBC Concert Orchestra plus many more as well as performing in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth’s Hall. Sam also reached the final of the national competition Young Drummer of the Year in 2015.
Sam was an original member of “The Delegates” in his first year at Purcell taking the Drum chair, and started MD-ing and leading the band at the beginning of the 2015/16 school year. Sam plays Zildjian Cymbals, Gretsch Drums and Vic Firth Peter Erskine signature big band drum sticks.
