Charlie Heywood – Guitar

DSCF2584Charlie was born on the 20th of July 1998 into a musical family who were all frequently about on the London music scene, most prolifically in jazz. Charlie started playing the piano at the age of 3 and by the age of 9 had won 2 local music competitions, by this time Charlie was interested more in Jazz than classical music. He went through his dad’s CD collection, started listening to Pat Metheney for the first time and immediately started to focus on guitar. Charlie joined The Purcell School of Music in year 8 and is currently studying under Chris Montague and Kit Downes, for Jazz guitar and jazz composition respectively, both of whom Charlie has written and performed with.

Charlie also studies under Simon Speare for classical composition, and his pieces are frequently played in concerts at school. When Charlie was 15 he was accepted into the Junior Jazz Programme at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he has been a member of the junior faculty for 2 years now.
